The low-FODMAP diet is a therapeutic diet which is often recommended to those with irritable bowels.

Service Description

This program includes 5 consultations (an initial one hour consultation and four 30 minute follow ups). I will provide you with ongoing support and all the information and support you need to follow this diet which can be challenging for some people. The low-FODMAP diet is a therapeutic diet which is often recommended by health professionals to those who suffer from IBS and other gastrointestinal issues that have similar symptoms (such as inflammatory bowel disease). FODMAP is short for Fermentable Oligo-, Di-, Mono-saccharides and Polyols, but all you really need to know is that FODMAPs are types of carbohydrates that can be poorly absorbed in the upper gut and can cause alterations in bacterial fermentation and fluid content in the lower bowel (colon) along with a range of symptoms. Some people tolerate FODMAP foods perfectly well, but for those that don't the results can be a range of distressing and uncomfortable gut symptoms such as bloating, burping, trapped wind, abdominal pain and even constipation and diarrhoea. It should be stressed that the low-FODMAP diet is a therapeutic diet for people diagnosed with functional bowel disorders. FODMAPs do not cause IBS, but there is substantial scientific evidence that limiting FODMAP intake does help symptom management for many IBS sufferers.
